The WIDIA 5872867 is a single-end, square-profile solid carbide end mill designed for metal removal in demanding milling applications. It carries a 3/8 inch diameter with a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 30-degree helix angle. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection, extending tool life when cutting ferrous and high-temperature materials. At 2 inches overall length with a straight 3/8 inch shank, this tool fits standard ER and set-screw toolholders common in CNC machining centers and manual mills. Two flutes provide efficient chip evacuation in tougher workpiece materials.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, and cast iron in both roughing and finishing passes where a regular-length reach is appropriate. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional side milling. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC setups. The I2S series targets general-purpose metalworking in job shop and production environments. Secondary material compatibility extends to hardened materials, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, making this a versatile tool across common shop work.
Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Secondary workpiece materials include hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum and non-ferrous alloys, steel, and high-temperature alloys. Fits any toolholder accepting a 3/8 inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or drawbar is disengaged before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the collet or set-screw holder and torque the retaining nut or screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, particularly when working with tight-tolerance features.
