The WALTER-TITEX 6618628 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. Built to Series DC150-08-A1 standards, it carries a TiNAl coating that extends tool life by reducing heat buildup and wear at the cutting edge. The drill measures 4.10 mm in diameter with an overall length of 85.00 mm (3.346 inches) and features a 140-degree split-point geometry that improves centering and reduces thrust on entry. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management during deep or continuous cuts. This tool is intended for use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and production drilling professionals.
The 6618628 is engineered for drilling into cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel, superalloys, and titanium. Its 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 37.00 mm maximum drilling depth make it well suited for blind hole applications and stack drilling operations where consistent hole quality and dimensional accuracy are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 6.00 mm (0.236 inches) fits standard drill chucks and collet holders used in CNC machining centers and conventional drill presses alike. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for the majority of machine tool spindles in production environments.
The 6618628 is rated for primary workpiece materials classified under material codes K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous metals), P (steel), and S (superalloys and titanium). It is compatible with CNC machining centers and manual drill presses equipped with chucks or collets accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for blind hole and stack drilling tool applications per Series DC150-08-A1 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with carbide tooling. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or removing the drill. Solid carbide tooling is brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or clamping the flute section in a chuck. Verify coolant-through lines are open and at the correct flow rate before engaging the cut, as thermal shock from intermittent coolant can fracture carbide substrates.
