The WALTER-TITEX 5057173 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field environments. Manufactured from cobalt vanadium high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit is built for cutting tough workpiece materials including stainless steel, cast iron, hard material, and non-ferrous metals. It carries a 27/64 inch (0.4200 inch decimal) diameter, a 130-degree split point, and a parabolic flute design that promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting resistance. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. This is a right-hand cut tool intended for installation by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on precision drilling applications.
The 5057173 is sized for screw machine length work, offering a shorter, stiffer geometry compared to jobber length bits. This makes it well suited for applications where rigidity and positional accuracy matter, such as close-tolerance hole production in steel fabrication, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments. It carries a 3.75-inch overall length and a 1-27/32 inch flute length, with a maximum drilling depth of 1.1000 inches. The parabolic flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration support higher feed rates and cooler cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike.
Designed as a direct-fit screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron, hard material, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel. Part of the WALTER-TITEX Series A1148 universal performance line.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or hard materials to manage heat buildup. Inspect the split point for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged point will reduce hole quality and accelerate tool wear.
