The WALTER-TITEX 5057070 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from cobalt vanadium high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.1405 inches in diameter - equivalent to a No. 28 wire gauge size - with an overall length of 2-1/16 inches and a flute length of 25/32 inches. The 130-degree split point reduces walking at entry and minimizes the need for a center punch. A parabolic two-flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust during feed. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in cast iron, stainless steel, hardened steels, non-ferrous metals, and other hard materials. The screw machine length - shorter than a jobber bit - provides rigidity in drill press, CNC, and turret lathe applications where stub-length control is needed. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard chucks without modification. The Series A1148 designation places it within a catalog line built to DIN, ISO, and BS standards for consistent dimensional tolerances across production runs.
Designed for use in standard drill press, CNC machining center, and turret lathe chucks accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, hard material, non-ferrous metal, stainless steel, and steel. Series A1148, sized to No. 28 wire gauge (0.1405 inches).
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with metal cutting operations. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before applying power, and confirm chuck runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature bit wear. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material - stainless steel and hard materials benefit from sulfurized or synthetic cutting oil. Maximum drilling depth for this bit is 0.6000 inches; for deeper holes, peck-drill in incremental passes to clear chips and reduce heat buildup.
