The WALTER-TITEX 5057055 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from cobalt vanadium high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for production and job-site use. The 130-degree split point initiates cuts without walking, reducing the need for a center punch. A parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and allows deeper cuts relative to bit diameter. At 0.182 inches (wire gauge #14) in diameter with an overall length of 2-9/32 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is sized for close-tolerance work in metalworking and fabrication environments.
This bit is intended for right-hand cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including cast iron, stainless steel, hardened materials, and general steel stock. The screw machine length format - shorter than jobber length - provides added rigidity in turret lathes, CNC drill presses, and screw machine setups where stub rigidity matters. It is equally at home in manual drill presses and hand-held power drills used by machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports a maximum drilling depth of 0.600 inches per pass.
Designed for use in screw machines, CNC drill presses, turret lathes, and conventional drill presses requiring a stub-length, straight-shank bit in the 0.150 to 0.200 inch diameter range. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, hard materials, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and general steel per Series A1148 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with drill press and machine tool operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing bits. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the rated grip depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate or drilling depth per pass for the workpiece material, as cobalt HSS bits can fracture under sudden lateral loads.
