The WALTER 5615016 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations in CNC and manual turning applications. Built to ANSI and ISO standards, it carries the CCMT insert style with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The WSM20 substrate is protected by a multilayer PVD coating combining TiAlN, Al2O3, and ZrCN for extended tool life in demanding cuts. This insert targets licensed machinists and toolroom technicians running finishing passes on stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces where surface finish and edge consistency are critical.
This insert is suited for light to moderate material removal in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The PF4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, generating controlled chips at lower depths of cut. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel and superalloys including titanium, with secondary suitability for carbon and alloy steels. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible tool holder pairing. Maximum depth of cut is 0.1269 inches, making it best applied in finish-pass and semi-finish scenarios rather than heavy roughing cycles.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp turning tool holders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations. Sold in minimum order quantities of 10 inserts, with individual packaging per insert.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the tool holder specification - refer to the holder manufacturer documentation for the correct value. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure full contact and accurate index position.
