The UNIWELD N40 is a 40 cubic foot steel nitrogen cylinder used for pressure testing, purging, and leak-checking refrigerant and gas piping systems. It ships empty and is filled by the technician through a local gas supplier before use. At approximately 23 inches tall and 7 inches in diameter, the N40 is compact enough for a service van but holds enough nitrogen for multiple test procedures. HVAC technicians and plumbers rely on cylinders like this to dry-purge copper lines during brazing and to pressure-test systems before charging or commissioning.
The N40 is used in residential and light commercial service work wherever a portable nitrogen supply is needed. Common applications include refrigerant line purging prior to brazing, standing pressure tests on refrigerant circuits and gas piping, and leak detection using nitrogen and a trace gas. Because the cylinder ships empty, it can be transported legally without a hazmat manifest and filled locally to whatever pressure the job requires.
Designed for use with standard CGA-580 nitrogen regulators common to HVAC and refrigeration service equipment. Verify regulator fitting compatibility before use.
Nitrogen cylinders must be secured upright during transport and storage to prevent tipping. Always attach an appropriate CGA-580 regulator before opening the valve, and never use a nitrogen cylinder without a regulator in line. Confirm system working pressure ratings before pressurizing any circuit, and follow local codes including applicable sections of the IFGC and refrigerant system testing guidelines. Cylinder service and hydrostatic testing should be performed by a certified cylinder inspection facility per DOT requirements.
