The TUNGALOY 6802012 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG-SS series, designated CNMG431SS with manufacturer grade GH330. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius. The insert carries a TiCNO coating applied via PVD process and is honed along the cutting edge for consistent performance. With four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders for precision metal removal.
This insert is designed for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, and K. Material grade coverage spans P15, P30, M15, M30, K05, and K30, making it appropriate for a broad range of metal cutting conditions across both light and moderate stock removal. Typical applications include external turning, facing passes, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in production machining environments. The SS chip breaker geometry is optimized for these workpiece material groups.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with CNC lathes and turning centers used in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron machining. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG 431 SS geometry.
This insert is installed by machinists or toolroom technicians using a torx or hex key to engage the clamp and pin holding system - always consult the toolholder manufacturer's documentation for proper seating procedure. Ensure the machine is powered off and the spindle is locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Verify that the insert seats fully and evenly in the pocket with no rocking before resuming cutting operations. Discard inserts that show chipping, cratering, or thermal cracking rather than indexing to an adjacent cutting edge.
