The TRU-MAXX 66253255583 is a Type 1 surface grinding wheel designed for precision stock removal and surface finishing on ferrous metals and alloys. Built with aluminum oxide abrasive and a vitrified bond, this wheel delivers consistent cut rate and form retention throughout its service life. It runs at a maximum of 5410 RPM and carries a K hardness code, placing it in the medium hardness range — a versatile grade suited to a wide range of surface grinding applications. The semi-friable grain structure allows the wheel to self-dress moderately, helping maintain sharp cutting action without excessive loading. Machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople are the primary installers and operators of this wheel.
This wheel is intended for use on horizontal-spindle surface grinders in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. At 6 inches in diameter, 1/4 inch thick, and with a 1-1/4 inch arbor hole, it fits a common class of bench and pedestal surface grinder spindles. The 80-grit specification targets medium-fine material removal — appropriate for finishing passes, light stock removal, and tool sharpening where surface finish quality matters. The pink aluminum oxide abrasive compound and non-porous, vitrified structure make it well-suited to dry or light-coolant grinding of steel, hardened steel, and similar hard ferrous materials.
Designed as a replacement or stock grinding wheel for horizontal-spindle surface grinders accepting a 6-inch diameter, 1/4-inch thick, Type 1 wheel with a 1-1/4-inch arbor hole.
Grinding wheel installation and dressing must be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B11.9 and OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Before mounting, inspect the wheel for cracks or chips using the ring test — do not install a damaged wheel. Power down and lock out the grinder before changing wheels, confirm the spindle speed does not exceed the wheel maximum of 5410 RPM, and use proper flanges and blotters as required. Always dress the wheel with an appropriate diamond or star dresser before the first grinding pass.
