The SPI CMS160809040 is a mechanical depth micrometer designed for precision depth measurement in machining, toolroom, and inspection applications. It covers a 0 to 4 inch measurement range using four interchangeable rotating rods with a diameter of 0.176 inches (4.50 mm). The ratchet stop thimble delivers consistent measuring pressure to ensure repeatable readings. Graduation is 0.001 inches with an accuracy of 0.0002 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance work. The 2.5 inch base length provides stable seating across bores, slots, and shoulders. The unit ships NIST-certified with a Short Form Certificate of Calibration included.
This depth micrometer is well suited for machine shops, tool and die operations, and quality control environments where verified traceability is required. The NIST certification and included calibration certificate make it a practical choice for shops operating under ISO or other quality management standards. It is used by machinists and metrology technicians to measure the depth of blind holes, counterbores, slots, and step features on workpieces. The hardened steel measuring faces resist wear during repeated production use.
Designed as a standard mechanical depth micrometer for general toolroom and inspection use. Compatible with any application requiring 0 to 4 inch depth measurement with rotating-rod interchangeability and NIST-traceable certification.
This instrument is used by machinists and metrology technicians and requires no installation. Before use, verify the base is clean and free of burrs or debris that could affect seating. Zero the micrometer with the base flat on a reference surface before taking measurements. Calibration should be verified periodically per your shop quality procedures; the included NIST certificate establishes the initial traceable baseline.
