The SOUTHWIRE CAP400 is a 4-inch EMT insulating bushing made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). It mounts at the end of electrical metallic tubing to protect wire and cable insulation from abrasion at conduit terminations. Without a bushing at the conduit end, sharp metal edges can damage conductor insulation and create potential fault or fire hazards. The CAP400 provides a smooth, insulating throat that meets NEC requirements for protecting conductors at conduit openings. Electricians install this fitting during rough-in and trim-out on conduit runs in commercial and residential applications.
The CAP400 is suited for use on 4-inch EMT conduit terminations in panel enclosures, junction boxes, and equipment knockouts. It is a common fitting on commercial electrical projects where large-diameter EMT runs terminate at switchgear, distribution panels, and motor control centers. Its lightweight HDPE construction makes handling on the job site straightforward and does not add meaningful weight to the conduit assembly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insulating bushing for standard 4-inch EMT conduit terminations in commercial and residential electrical installations.
A licensed electrician should install this fitting in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage before working in any enclosure where this bushing will be installed. The bushing seats by hand at the end of the EMT conduit before or after the locknut is secured, depending on the fitting configuration. Do not force the bushing onto conduit ends that are burred or deformed — ream the conduit end first to ensure a clean, flush seat.
