The SOUTHWIRE 55531004 is a 16 AWG, 4-conductor (2-pair) solid-conductor, overall-shielded fire alarm cable rated FPLP (Fire Power Limited Plenum). It is designed for use in fire alarm and life safety signaling circuits where a plenum-rated, shielded cable is required. The overall shield provides protection against electromagnetic interference, which is critical in environments where signal integrity must be maintained. This cable is listed to NYC Local Law 5 requirements, making it appropriate for fire alarm installations in New York City high-rise and commercial occupancies. Licensed fire alarm installers and low-voltage electricians are the primary installers of this product.
This cable is suited for commercial and institutional fire alarm system wiring in plenum air-handling spaces, where low-smoke, limited-combustible cable ratings are required by code. The FPLP rating satisfies NFPA 72 and NEC Article 760 plenum installation requirements. Its shielded 2-pair construction supports addressable and conventional fire alarm panel wiring runs where noise rejection is needed. The NYC Local Law 5 listing makes it a code-compliant choice for projects subject to New York City fire code requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style plenum fire alarm cable for use with conventional and addressable fire alarm control panels requiring 16 AWG shielded signaling wire in plenum-rated applications.
Installation must be performed by a licensed low-voltage electrician or fire alarm technician in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC Article 760, and all applicable local codes. De-energize the fire alarm panel and notify the authority having jurisdiction before beginning any wiring work. The overall shield drain wire should be terminated at one end only to avoid ground loops. Verify all plenum pathway requirements with the local authority having jurisdiction prior to pulling cable.
