The SOUTHWIRE 20490912 is a 500-foot roll of 8 AWG stranded THHN building wire in red, rated for 600 volts and 90 degrees C. It is a general-purpose copper conductor intended for power distribution, lighting circuits, and control wiring inside commercial and residential structures. The conductor is stranded copper for flexibility, covered with flame-retardant PVC insulation and a nylon jacket that resists oil, gasoline, chemicals, and abrasion. Electricians reach for this wire when pulling conductors through conduit or raceways on new construction and retrofit projects. It carries a UL listing for use in standard building wire applications.
This wire is suited for use in dry and wet locations where THHN or THWN-rated conductors are required. Common applications include branch circuit wiring, feeder runs, motor control wiring, and general building power distribution. The 8 AWG size is frequently specified for 40- to 50-amp circuits, sub-panel feeds, and equipment connections in both residential and light commercial settings. The red jacket color aids in phase identification when multiple conductors are pulled together.
Designed for use in conduit and raceway systems where THHN or THWN-rated 8 AWG building wire is specified per NEC requirements.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Use proper wire-pulling lubricant when pulling through conduit to avoid jacket damage. Do not exceed the conductor ampacity ratings listed in NEC Table 310.15 for the specific installation conditions.
