The SGS 56144 is a straight-flute drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous metals, including cast iron, hardened steel, and alloy steel. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride), it handles demanding applications where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The 140-degree standard point angle reduces thrust and improves hole entry on hard materials. At 0.1875 inches in diameter with a 1.125-inch flute length and an overall length of 2.188 inches, this bit fits compact tooling setups. It is intended for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production shops running CNC or manual drilling operations.
The SGS 56144 is suited for production drilling in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials in shop and manufacturing environments. The web-thinned geometry reduces cutting resistance on tough materials. The right-hand cutting direction and 2-flute configuration are standard for most drill press, lathe, and CNC machining center applications. Maximum drilling depth is 29/32 inches (0.910 inches). This bit conforms to DIN 6539 standards, making it a direct fit for shops that specify metric-standard tooling alongside inch-dimension work.
Designed as a straight-flute carbide drill for use in cast iron, hardened steel, and steel workpieces; suitable for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes accepting a 0.1880-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Confirm spindle runout is within acceptable limits before use, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to deflection. Secure the shank fully in the toolholder before operation and verify the tool is concentric to reduce premature chipping. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use appropriate surface or flood coolant delivery if the application requires it.
