The SGS 51349 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A), it delivers excellent heat resistance and wear life in demanding applications. The 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) diameter bit features a 145-degree notched point for accurate self-centering entry and reduced thrust. With a right-hand cut and regular spiral flute geometry, it is suited for machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production environments drilling alloy steels and titanium. Overall length is 3-1/8 inches with a 1-9/16 inch flute length.
This bit is intended for use on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills where tight tolerances and hard-material performance are required. The screw machine (stub) length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-reach setups. Primary workpiece materials include alloy steel and titanium. The web-thinned, tapered web design lowers cutting forces and improves chip evacuation. Maximum drilling depth is 1.0000 inch. This bit is sold individually and is appropriate for production drilling, aerospace component work, and precision machining operations.
Designed for drilling alloy steel and titanium workpieces on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and milling machines accepting a 0.3125 inch straight shank. Part of the SGS Series 135 screw machine length carbide drill line.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the straight shank in a properly sized drill chuck or collet to the full shank engagement depth before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed reduction, or re-chucking on a worn collet that can induce runout. Follow machine manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for solid carbide drills in the target workpiece material.
