The SGS 31601 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling in a wide range of metalworking and fabrication applications. Built to Series 16 stub-length specifications, it features a 1/16-inch (0.0625-inch) cutting diameter, a 1/8-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle. The micrograin carbide construction delivers hardness and edge retention that holds up in demanding cutting conditions. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This end mill is center-cutting and configured as a single-end tool. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users for this type of tooling.
The SGS 31601 is suited for milling operations on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub-length profile and 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank make it appropriate for close-tolerance slotting, profiling, and pocketing on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where minimal overhang and high rigidity are required. The variable index configuration helps reduce chatter during cut.

Installation and use of this end mill should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual milling equipment. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing or seating tooling. Verify collet or chuck condition and runout prior to use, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on small-diameter carbide tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds appropriate to the workpiece material and depth of cut.
