The SGS 30198 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide with an AlTiN finish, it delivers high heat resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 1/8 inch diameter cutting head features a 1/2 inch length of cut, a 1-1/2 inch overall length, and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. A 30-degree helix angle combined with a variable index geometry promotes chip evacuation and reduces chatter at the cutting edge. This tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators in shop environments.
The 30198 is suited for milling operations on a range of materials including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and carbon steels, as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry, making it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling. Its spiral flute geometry and right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration are standard for conventional CNC milling center setups. This is a regular-length tool, suitable for standard reach applications where extended reach is not required.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by SGS Series 1 tooling classification, covering cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, heat-resistant alloys, and carbon and alloy steels. Accepts standard 1/8 inch collet or tool holder systems.
This end mill is installed by qualified machinists or CNC operators and requires a compatible collet or shrink-fit tool holder rated for the 1/8 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before inserting or removing the tool. Verify runout and tool projection before beginning a cut, as small-diameter carbide tools are sensitive to excessive overhang and improper clamping. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable OSHA machine guarding standards during setup and operation.
