The SANDVIK COROMANT 7858988 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries the ANSI insert code CCMT32.51 and ISO code CCMT09T304, placing it in the CoroTurn 107 series. The insert is manufactured from carbide substrate and coated via CVD process with a three-layer TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN coating stack. Grade 4415 is formulated for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness in steel machining. The neutral hand orientation and 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape give it broad versatility across finish to medium roughing passes.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium machining operations on steel (ISO P) as the primary workpiece material, with cast iron (ISO K) as a secondary application. The PM chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chips across a range of depths of cut and feed rates common in general turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in manufacturing, maintenance machining, and precision fabrication are the primary installers of this insert.
Designed for use in CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting CCMT insert geometry with ANSI size code 32.51 and ISO size code 09T304. Tolerance code M and clearance code C apply. Confirm toolholder specifications before ordering.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert securely via the clamp or screw holding method; refer to the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the specific clamping hardware used. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Follow the machine shop safety program and applicable OSHA standards when handling carbide inserts, as edges are sharp.
