The ROTOR CLIP CG-175SJ is an external spiral retaining ring engineered for use on 1.75-inch diameter shafts. It seats into a precision-cut groove and provides a low-profile, single-turn axial stop for bearings, gears, pulleys, and other shaft-mounted components. Manufactured from AISI 302 stainless steel to the AMS-5866 and ISO 13485:2016 standards, it delivers corrosion resistance suitable for wet, washdown, and medical-adjacent environments. The ring measures 0.062 inches thick with a free diameter of 1.633 inches and a free outside diameter of 1.889 inches. Installation requires no special tooling beyond standard spiral retaining ring pliers.
This ring is used in light to medium industrial assemblies where a conventional stamped circlip or snap ring is not suitable or where axial space is limited. Spiral retaining rings are common in HVAC drive assemblies, pump shafts, motor end-bells, conveyor components, and fluid-handling equipment. The external configuration means the ring seats into a groove machined into the outside diameter of a shaft, retaining hub-style components from axial movement. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary installers in both OEM production and field-repair contexts.
Designed for installation on 1.75-inch diameter shafts with a machined external groove diameter of 1.650 inches, a groove width of 0.068 inches, and a groove depth of 0.050 inches per AISI 302 and AMS-5866 spiral retaining ring groove specifications.
Installation and removal should be performed with spiral retaining ring pliers rated for the ring diameter to avoid distorting the ring or damaging the groove. Shut down and lock out all power and mechanical energy to the assembly before disassembly. Confirm groove dimensions match the specified tolerances before seating the ring; an undersized or oversized groove can cause the ring to back out under load. Do not hammer or pry the ring into position, as this can crack or deform the stainless steel and compromise axial retention.
