The RITEN 68923 is a carbide-tipped steel solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and between-centers turning operations. Featuring a long point configuration with a 60-degree included angle, it provides precise workpiece support at a 0.00005 inch accuracy rating. The 3MT Morse taper shank seats securely in compatible tailstock bores. Carbide tipping at the point resists wear and heat buildup during extended or high-speed turning passes. This center is installed and serviced by machinists and tool room technicians working on manual and CNC lathes in production and job shop environments.
This dead center is suited for workholding applications in metal turning operations where a fixed, non-rotating center is required. The long point geometry allows access to workpieces with smaller center-drilled holes or tight clearance requirements. With a 0.5 inch head diameter and 2 inch point length, it handles a range of shaft and cylindrical part geometries. It is typically used in tailstock applications on machines equipped with a Number 3 Morse taper socket.
Designed as an OEM-style solid dead center for lathes and turning machines equipped with a Number 3 Morse taper tailstock socket.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool room technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the center from the tailstock bore. Clean the Morse taper bore and shank thoroughly before insertion to ensure full contact and accurate seating. Dead centers generate heat at the contact point during use, so verify proper lubrication of the workpiece center hole to prevent galling or premature wear.
