The RITEN 68915 is a carbide-tipped steel solid dead center designed for precision lathe work requiring a fixed, non-rotating tailstock support point. Built with a 5MT Morse taper shank, this dead center seats directly into a lathe tailstock or headstock spindle and provides a stable, accurate contact point for turning between centers. The carbide-tipped full dead center construction delivers hardness and wear resistance at the contact point, maintaining an accuracy of 0.00005 inches. At 4.15 pounds and with a 1-3/4 inch head diameter, this is a robust center suited for heavier turning operations where rigidity and dimensional stability are critical.
This solid dead center is used in manual lathe operations across metalworking shops, tool rooms, and production environments. It is suited for turning, threading, and finishing operations where the workpiece is supported between centers and rotational speed is low enough that workpiece lubrication at the point is feasible. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on shafts, spindles, and cylindrical workpieces will find this center appropriate for both setup and production turning on machines fitted with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock.
Designed for use in lathes equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper tailstock or headstock spindle bore. Verify taper size against machine specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with Morse taper tooling. Power down and bring the lathe spindle to a complete stop before seating or removing the center. Clean the taper shank and spindle bore thoroughly before insertion to ensure full seating and prevent runout. When using a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting fluid or grease to the workpiece center hole to reduce friction and prevent galling at the contact point.
