The RITEN 68123 is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and live-center applications where a fixed, non-rotating contact point is required. Built from steel with a long-point geometry and a 3MT Morse taper shank, this center provides rigid workpiece support during turning, grinding, and between-centers machining operations. The head diameter measures 0.75 inches, the point diameter is 0.75 inches, and the point length extends 2 inches. Accuracy is rated at 0.00005 inches, making it suitable for precision turning work. It weighs 0.85 pounds and fits standard 3MT tailstock bores.
This solid dead center is intended for use in metal-cutting lathes equipped with a 3 Morse taper tailstock. It is suited for residential shop, job shop, and production environments where a fixed center point is preferred over a live center, typically in short-duration cuts or where the workpiece can be lubricated at the contact point. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary installers and users of this center type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit solid dead center for metal lathes equipped with a 3 Morse taper tailstock bore.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Before seating the center, ensure the tailstock bore and the Morse taper shank are clean and free of chips or burrs to prevent false seating. Insert the taper firmly by hand or with a soft mallet until fully seated; never force a misaligned taper. Because this is a solid dead center, apply appropriate cutting lubricant to the contact point when supporting rotating workpieces to minimize friction and heat buildup.
