The RITEN 68104 is a solid dead center designed for precision lathe work and cylindrical turning operations. It mounts via a 4MT Morse Taper shank and features a long-point tip geometry that provides extended reach and improved visibility during close-tolerance turning. The head diameter measures 5/8 inches with a point diameter of 5/8 inches and a point-to-gauge-line length of 2-7/8 inches. Machined from steel and finished to an accuracy of 0.00005 inches, this center holds tight tolerances under sustained cutting loads. It is a non-rotating dead center, meaning it is used at the tailstock when workpiece speed is low or when rigidity is the priority over friction reduction.
The RITEN 68104 is suited for manual and CNC lathes equipped with a 4MT Morse Taper tailstock socket. Typical applications include between-center turning, grinding setups, and inspection work where a fixed reference point is required. The long-point configuration is particularly useful when turning thin-diameter workpieces or when clearance around the cutting zone is limited. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and precision grinding technicians are the primary users of this type of center.
Designed for use in lathe tailstocks with a Number 4 Morse Taper socket. Suitable for between-center turning, cylindrical grinding setups, and inspection fixtures where a fixed solid center is required.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians. Before inserting the center, ensure the Morse Taper bore of the tailstock is clean and free of chips, oil, and burrs, as contamination will affect seating accuracy. Insert the taper with a firm push to fully seat it; do not hammer. When removing, use the tailstock ejector spindle or a soft-faced drift to avoid damage to the taper surfaces. Dead centers generate friction heat at the contact point, so use only at appropriate workpiece speeds.
