The RIDGID 41608 is a rotating tailpiece cutter designed for cutting plastic drain pipe in plumbing service and installation work. The tool handles outside diameters from 1-1/4 inches to 1-1/2 inches, covering the standard sizes used in sink drain assemblies and P-trap connections. The rotating cutter design allows the blade to score around the pipe circumference for a clean, square cut without requiring a saw or leaving burrs that can compromise slip-joint seals. The ergonomic handle gives a plumber steady control in the tight clearances typical under sinks and in vanity cabinets. Overall tool length is 8 inches.
The 41608 is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing work where plastic drain tailpieces and trap arms need to be trimmed to length during fixture installation or drain repair. Compatible materials include polyethylene, polypropylene, and thin-wall PVC pipe — the three plastics most commonly found in drain, waste, and vent rough-in and finish plumbing. Plumbers and plumbing service technicians are the primary users, though skilled DIYers working on sink drains will also find it practical.
Designed for cutting polyethylene, polypropylene, and thin-wall PVC plastic drain pipe with outside diameters of 1-1/4 inches and 1-1/2 inches, as used in standard sink drain tailpiece and P-trap assemblies.
Turn off the water supply and clear standing water from the drain before beginning any drain disassembly. Position the cutter blade at the desired cut mark and rotate the tool around the pipe, tightening incrementally each pass until the pipe separates. Deburr the cut end before reassembling slip-joint fittings to ensure a leak-free seal. Work performed on drain, waste, and vent systems should comply with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC requirements.
