The RENISHAW A-5000-3709 is a CMM ball stylus designed for coordinate measuring machine probing applications. It features a 6 mm ruby ball tip mounted on a ceramic stem with an M4 threaded shank. Ruby is the preferred ball material in dimensional metrology because of its hardness, roundness consistency, and low wear rate during repeated contact cycles. The ceramic stem provides a high stiffness-to-weight ratio and low thermal expansion, reducing measurement error introduced by temperature variation in the inspection environment. Overall length is 50 mm, making it well suited to shallow-reach probing tasks on standard CMM setups.
This stylus is used in quality control and dimensional inspection environments, including precision manufacturing, aerospace component verification, and toolroom measurement. It threads directly onto Renishaw-compatible probe bodies and extension modules using the M4 interface. Typical users include CMM operators, quality engineers, and metrology technicians working on touch-trigger or scanning probe systems in both production and laboratory settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit stylus for CMM probe systems using an M4 threaded interface.
Installation is performed by qualified CMM operators or metrology technicians. Power down or pause the CMM and retract the probe head to a safe position before changing stylus components. Thread the stylus in by hand until snug - do not use tools that could overtorque the M4 thread or damage the ceramic stem. After installation, always perform a stylus qualification or re-qualification routine on a reference sphere before resuming measurement programs.
