The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000123 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit delivers reliable performance across a broad spectrum of drilling applications. It features a 39/64-inch (0.6094 inch decimal) drill diameter paired with a 1/2-inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard chucks equipped for flat-drive engagement. The 118-degree standard point angle is the most common geometry for general metalworking, requiring no special setup or pilot hole on most ferrous stock.
This bit is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication environments, and maintenance applications where a reduced shank is needed to fit a 1/2-inch chuck while drilling a larger-diameter hole. The Series R57 designation places it in a well-established line of general-purpose HSS drill bits. Compatible workpiece materials include ferrous metal as the primary target, with secondary capability on aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials. No coolant-through capability is present, so standard flood or manual lubrication applies when drilling harder stock.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2-inch capacity chucks and Weldon-style tool holders. Rated for drilling ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials per ANSI standards (Series R57).
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified technician using a drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with a 1/2-inch Weldon-compatible chuck or holder. Secure all three flats against the set screws in the Weldon holder before operating to prevent slippage under torque. Ensure the workpiece is properly clamped before drilling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when working harder ferrous stock to manage heat buildup and extend bit life.
