The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999741 is a taper length drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Ground from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved chip clearance and reduced thrust during entry. The straight shank measures 0.1495 inches in diameter, matching the wire gauge size 25 designation. With a 3-inch flute length at a 6xD ratio and an overall length of 5-3/8 inches, it provides greater reach than a jobber-length bit in the same diameter class. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and deep-hole applications.
This taper length bit suits fabrication shops, maintenance technicians, and machinists who need extended reach when drilling in confined areas or through thicker workpieces. The ANSI-compliant Series R52 design is suited for production and maintenance drilling in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium, nickel, and reinforced plastics. No coolant-through capability is present, so it is best applied in bench drill, drill press, or hand drill operations where flood or mist coolant is not required.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel as noted in the product specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with a compatible chuck accepting a straight shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation. Because this bit lacks coolant-through capability, use appropriate cutting fluid applied externally when drilling ferrous metals or hardened materials to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if the point shows signs of chipping or excessive wear.
