The OSG VGM7-0002 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance finishing in demanding machining applications. It features a 1/4 inch diameter, a 0.02 inch corner radius, and seven flutes arranged in a close-pitch, variable-index configuration for improved chip evacuation and reduced vibration. The flutes run in a right-hand spiral with a medium helix angle, optimized for single-end, right-hand cutting. An EXO proprietary coating increases surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and high-temperature materials. This tool is sized for short-reach finishing passes and is intended for use with standard straight-shank toolholders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
The VGM7-0002 is designed for finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its short-reach geometry makes it well suited for tight-tolerance finishing cuts in mold and die work, aerospace components, and precision machined parts where corner definition and surface finish are critical. It mounts in any toolholder accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank and is typically used in vertical machining centers and CNC mills.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as part of the OSG VGM7 series.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in a safe state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a finishing pass, as excess runout will accelerate wear on a seven-flute geometry.
