The OSG VGM6-0079 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining applications. Built on OSG's VGM6 series platform, this single-end tool features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, six helical flutes, and a 37-degree helix angle to promote efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. The micrograin carbide substrate provides hardness and wear resistance suited for aggressive cutting conditions. An EXO coating is applied to extend tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. This end mill is a shop-floor tool handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The VGM6-0079 is sized for general-purpose and high-efficiency milling in steel, stainless steel, hardened materials, and other metals where a six-flute geometry provides a performance advantage over standard four-flute tooling. With a 1.5-inch length of cut, 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank, and 4-inch overall length, it fits standard toolholders and collet chucks used in vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, making it well suited for high-feed and finishing passes where chatter control is critical.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement and production end mill for use in CNC vertical machining centers and milling machines accepting a 0.5-inch straight shank; part of the OSG VGM6 series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or collet is de-energized before loading or changing the tool. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the recommended gauge line depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before running. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended starting speeds and feeds for the workpiece material; do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut or engagement without validated process data.
