The OSG VGM5-0256 is a single-end square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with an EXO coating, this tool delivers extended tool life and consistent cutting performance across a range of materials. The cutter features a 1 inch mill diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 5-inch overall length. Five helical flutes with a 40-degree helix angle and variable index geometry reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. The 1 inch straight-cylindrical shank provides secure, concentric clamping in standard end mill holders. This end mill is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The VGM5-0256 is suited for roughing and finishing operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, giving the operator flexibility in tool paths. The EXO coating adds surface hardness and heat resistance to the carbide substrate, making it well-suited for dry cutting or minimum quantity lubrication setups in production environments. The stub length type and fixed overall length make it a direct fit for setups with limited Z-axis clearance.
Designed as an OEM-style end mill from the OSG VGM5 series, compatible with standard end mill holders and collet chucks accepting a 1 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum insertion depth required for your toolholder specification, and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use. Follow your facility safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and coolant application.
