The OSG VGM5-0139 is a single-end square end mill designed for high-performance milling in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this tool features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.25 inch length of cut, and five helical flutes with a 40-degree helix angle. The variable index flute spacing reduces chatter and vibration during the cut, which helps maintain surface finish and dimensional accuracy. The proprietary EXO coating improves wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions. This end mill is centercutting, making it suitable for plunge operations as well as side milling and slotting.
The VGM5-0139 is used in precision machining environments including CNC milling on machining centers and vertical mills. It is well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys where tool rigidity and edge integrity are critical. The 0.5 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders. The 3 inch overall length keeps overhang manageable, reducing deflection in close-tolerance work. Machinists and tooling technicians in job shops, production facilities, and aerospace or medical component manufacturing will find this geometry appropriate for tight-tolerance profiling and contouring operations.
Designed for use in standard 0.5 inch diameter end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and shrink-fit toolholding systems on CNC and manual milling machines. Part of the OSG VGM5 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the holder and torque retention screws or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a five-flute tool.
