The OSG VGM5-0057 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. With a 0.25-inch cutting diameter, 0.75-inch length of cut, and 2.5-inch overall length, this end mill fits standard 0.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders. The five-flute design with a 40-degree right-hand helical flute geometry increases chip evacuation efficiency and supports higher feed rates compared to four-flute equivalents. The EXO coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. Micrograin carbide substrate adds toughness at the cutting edge. Variable index spacing reduces harmonic vibration during the cut.
This end mill is suited for finish and semi-finish milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, hardened steels, and alloy materials in CNC machining center environments. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry as well as conventional side milling and slotting. It targets applications where surface finish quality and tool longevity are priorities, including die and mold work, aerospace component machining, and general precision part production. The regular-length profile accommodates standard depth-of-cut requirements without introducing excessive overhang.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank end mill. Part of the OSG VGM5 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or powered-down state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum insertion depth specified by the toolholder manufacturer to prevent pullout under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation; excessive runout will accelerate wear and degrade surface finish.
