The OSG VGM5-0001 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. Built from micrograin carbide and finished with OSG EXO coating, this tool delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in difficult-to-machine materials. The 1/8 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 3/16 inch length of cut and a 40-degree helical flute geometry, producing smooth chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Variable index spacing minimizes chatter and vibration during high-speed passes. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This tool is specified and used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators working with precision components.
The VGM5-0001 is suited for slot milling, peripheral milling, and plunge operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials where tight tolerances and fine surface finish are required. The stub-length configuration provides added rigidity, making it effective for high-feed applications and work requiring minimal deflection in short-reach setups. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation follows standard CNC and manual mill conventions. This tool fits directly into standard 1/8 inch straight-bore collets and ER collet systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement in the OSG VGM5 series. Fits standard 1/8 inch straight-bore collet holders and ER collet chucks used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Secure the shank in a clean, properly sized collet or tool holder and torque the collet nut according to the holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use. Ensure spindle speed and feed rate are set per the tool manufacturer recommendations for the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
