The OSG VG441-1004 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 1-inch mill diameter, a 4-inch length of cut, and a 7-inch overall length with a 1-inch shank diameter. The cutting geometry uses a 4-flute spiral flute configuration with a 35-degree helix angle and a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating to extend tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. Variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The VG441-1004 is suited for side milling, slotting, and profiling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals including alloy steels, stainless steels, and cast iron. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher cutting speeds and feeds compared to standard carbide grades. The right-hand cut, right-hand flute orientation is the standard configuration for most vertical machining center setups. This tool is not center-cutting and is not intended for plunge entry. It fits applications requiring a 4-inch depth-of-cut range, making it appropriate for deep-pocket and long-reach milling work.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill in the OSG VG441 series, suitable for use in standard 1-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Use a properly sized end mill holder or collet rated for a 1-inch shank and torque to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and reduce surface finish quality.
