The OSG HP258-1563 is a solid carbide taper length drill bit designed for precision drilling in demanding production and toolroom applications. It carries a 0.1562 inch (5/32 inch) diameter with a 140-degree split point that reduces walking and thrust on entry. The WD1 coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and deep-hole operations. Coolant-through capability channels fluid directly to the cutting zone, making this bit well suited for CNC machining centers and automated drilling cycles where heat and chip management are critical.
This drill bit is used in metalworking environments where tighter tolerances and longer reach are required than a jobber-length bit can provide. The taper length body gives additional flute depth for applications such as drilling into thick stock, stacked plates, or components that demand a cleaner exit hole. The 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports deep-hole drilling strategies. It is typically installed in CNC machining centers, drill presses, or manual mills by machinists and toolroom technicians working with ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composites, or engineered plastics.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production tooling option for applications requiring a 5/32 inch diameter taper length carbide drill bit in the OSG HP258 series.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a compatible drill chuck or collet system matched to the 4 mm shank diameter. Always power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing tooling. Confirm runout and tool projection before beginning a cycle, and verify that the coolant-through circuit is active and unobstructed before drilling at full depth. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety protocols when handling carbide tooling.
