The OSG HP255-5787 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 14.70 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point, and a right-hand spiral flute configuration. The drill is finished with OSG EgiAs multi-layer coating, which improves wear resistance and heat dissipation during continuous cutting. Overall length is 133.00 mm with an 83.00 mm flute length, giving it a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio. It ships with a straight cylindrical shank measuring 16 mm in diameter. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation in deep or interrupted cuts. This drill is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
The HP255-5787 is engineered primarily for steel, cast iron, and hardened materials. Its R-thinned point geometry and tapered web reduce thrust and improve self-centering entry, making it effective for blind hole, cross hole, and through-hole drilling operations. The 140-degree point angle handles harder ferrous materials that would cause premature wear on standard high-speed steel tooling. Applications include production machining in automotive, mold, and general metalworking environments where consistent hole quality and extended tool life are required.
Designed for use in steel, cast iron, and hardened materials as designated by workpiece material codes P and K. Fits standard toolholders and collet chucks sized for a 16 mm straight shank. Part of the OSG HP255 series, covering drill bit sizes in the 12.50 mm to 15.00 mm range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered down and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the toolholder or collet chuck is properly torqued and the shank is seated fully before operation. Coolant-through setups require verification that spindle coolant pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the cutting conditions. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool failure.
