The OSG HP255-2811 is a jobber-length solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 9/32 inch (0.2811 inch decimal, 7.14 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 91 mm (approximately 3.58 inches) and a flute length of 53 mm (approximately 2.09 inches). The 140-degree point angle and R-thinned point geometry reduce thrust force and improve self-centering on entry. WD1 coating extends tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix provide efficient chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability supports high-feed strategies in production environments. This bit is sold individually and suited for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with demanding workpiece materials.
The HP255-2811 is intended for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in production machining and maintenance applications. Its tapered web configuration and R-thinned point make it well suited for blind hole, cross hole, and through-hole drilling operations. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio accommodates moderate-depth holes without requiring peck cycles in most setups. The straight-cylindrical shank with an 8.00 mm shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks and drill chucks used on CNC machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, general drilling, and self-centering operations. Fits standard straight-shank collet chucks and drill chucks accepting an 8.00 mm shank diameter.
Installation and use of this tooling should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual machine tool operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable limits before use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide tool wear and can cause breakage. Confirm coolant-through lines are clear and delivering adequate flow when using the through-coolant feature.
