The OSG HP255-2480 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built to the HP255 series specification, it features a 6.30 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating that extends tool life in demanding production environments. The 2-flute spiral design with a regular helix promotes efficient chip evacuation, and internal coolant-through capability supports high-speed drilling cycles where cutting fluid delivery at the tip is critical. This is a production-grade cutting tool intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
The HP255-2480 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through-hole applications in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration make it appropriate for CNC machining centers and drill presses where rigidity and repeatability are required. The straight-cylindrical shank with an 8.00 mm shank diameter seats securely in standard collet chucks and drill chucks sized for that bore. Typical use cases include automotive, tooling, and general metalworking production runs.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (ISO material codes P and K). Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, standard drilling, and self-centering operations on CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with toolholders accepting an 8.00 mm straight shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the shank fully in the collet or chuck and verify runout before beginning a cutting cycle. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are within the machine spindle specifications before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the drill manufacturers recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool failure or breakage.
