The OSG HP255-2008 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built on OSG's HP255 series platform, it features a 5.1 mm diameter, a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry, and a WD1 coating optimized for extended tool life in demanding applications. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 82 mm with a flute length of 44 mm. The two-flute, regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and production operators who require consistent, repeatable hole quality in hard materials.
The HP255-2008 is engineered for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in applications including blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, through drilling, and self-centering operations. The coolant-through design supports internal coolant delivery, making it compatible with CNC machining centers and drilling stations equipped with coolant-through spindles. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio accommodates moderate depth drilling without excessive chip packing. This bit targets production environments where tool consistency and material compatibility with P and K workpiece material codes are priorities.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and multi-spindle drilling equipment with standard collets or chucks accepting a 6 mm straight shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials classified under ISO material codes P (steel, alloy steel) and K (cast iron).
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts, or re-chucking a worn tool without inspection. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm coolant pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the spindle setup before running.
