The OSG HP255-1563 is a jobber-length, solid carbide drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 5/32-inch (3.97 mm) diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for accurate self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating for extended tool life in demanding applications. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 74.00 mm (approximately 2.91 inches) with a flute length of 36.00 mm (approximately 1.42 inches). Two spiral flutes in a regular helix geometry clear chips efficiently during right-hand cutting. This bit is built for trade professionals who need consistent, repeatable hole quality in production or field environments.
The HP255-1563 is suited for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and coolant-through capability make it a practical choice for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and other setups where internal coolant delivery is available. The R-thinned point reduces thrust load at entry, which is especially useful when drilling into interrupted cuts or cross-hole configurations common in fabrication and mechanical contracting work.

Installation and use of carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with cutting tool setup. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Avoid side-loading carbide bits, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to fracture under lateral force.
