The OSG HP253-3150 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series HP253 specifications, it features an 8 mm diameter with a 140-degree split point and R-thinned web for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The coated carbide construction delivers superior hardness and heat resistance compared to HSS tooling. At 79 mm overall length with a 41 mm flute length, this stub-length drill provides added rigidity to minimize deflection. It is sized for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machine setups where precision and repeatability are critical.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in production and job-shop environments. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard ER collet chucks, drill chucks, and hydraulic toolholders. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, high-feed drilling cycles where through-spindle coolant is available. It is well-suited for automotive, mold and die, and general machining operations where tight hole tolerances and consistent tool life are required.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Compatible with standard straight-cylindrical shank toolholders including ER collet chucks and drill chucks sized for 8 mm shank diameter. Drill bit diameter tolerance is plus 0.006 to plus 0.021 mm.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the toolholder. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a drilling cycle, as excess runout accelerates carbide tool wear. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the workpiece material being cut.
