The OSG HP253-2165 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous and hard materials. At 5.5 mm (0.2165 inches) in diameter with a 140-degree split point, it delivers precise entry and reduced thrust in demanding production environments. The bit features a straight-cylindrical shank, 2-spiral flutes with a regular spiral configuration, and R-thinned web for improved chip evacuation. Overall length is 66 mm (2.5984 inches) with a 28 mm flute length, making it suited for short-reach, high-rigidity setups on CNC and manual machine tool applications. Coolant-through capability supports extended tool life in high-cycle operations.
This drill bit is built for metalworking trades including machining, tool and die, and maintenance professionals working with steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. The screw machine length format provides a compact, rigid profile ideal for use in turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where stub-length tooling is preferred. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration support consistent hole quality at production rates. Right-hand cut orientation is standard for conventional spindle direction.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard straight-shank tool holders, drill chucks, and collet systems accepting a 6.00 mm (0.2362 inch) shank diameter. Part of the OSG HP253 series covering drill bit sizes in the 5.00 to 6.50 mm range.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated. Ensure the chuck or collet is clean and within the correct shank-diameter range before seating the tool. Verify coolant-through supply pressure and flow rate are compatible with the machine tool before operating. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling guidelines for appropriate feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material.
