The OSG HP253-1181 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 3.00 mm in diameter with an overall length of 62.00 mm (2.44 inches) and features a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry for reduced entry force and improved chip evacuation. The EgiAs coating enhances surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding production environments. Two spiral flutes in a regular helix carry chips efficiently from the cut zone. This bit is a shop-floor tool used by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual machines.
The HP253-1181 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine and production drilling applications. The screw machine length profile - shorter than jobber length - provides added rigidity, making it well suited for tight-tolerance hole work in fixtures or close-clearance setups. The straight-cylindrical shank at 6.00 mm diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet systems. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed, high-feed cycles where flood or through-spindle coolant is available.
Designed for use in drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. The 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and ER collet toolholders sized for that shank diameter. Part of the OSG HP253 series for screw machine length carbide drilling.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and in a safe state. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use - chipped or worn carbide should not be returned to service. Follow the machine manufacturer and OSG cutting data recommendations for feed rate and spindle speed; running carbide tooling at incorrect parameters accelerates edge wear and can cause tool breakage.
