The OSG HP245-4843 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It carries a 31/64-inch (0.4843 inch) diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and an overall length of 124 mm (approximately 4.88 inches). The WD1 coating provides enhanced wear resistance and surface finish when cutting through steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. With a 2-flute spiral configuration and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit maintains chip evacuation efficiency across blind hole and cross-hole applications. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and general metalworking shops are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
The HP245-4843 is built for demanding production and maintenance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. It suits blind hole, cross-hole, standard through-hole, and self-centering drilling operations. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 14 mm shank diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders used on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. The regular spiral geometry and tapered web configuration make it a reliable choice for repetitive production runs where consistent hole tolerances are required.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Primary workpiece material codes P and K per ISO classification. Suitable for blind hole, cross-hole, through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. Part of the OSG HP245 series covering the 0.4000 to 0.5000 inch decimal diameter range.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Ensure the machine spindle and chuck or collet are powered down and fully stopped before mounting or removing the bit. Carbide tooling is brittle and should not be subjected to lateral impact or used in unstable setups that cause vibration or chatter. Verify that spindle speed and feed rate settings match the material and diameter before engaging the cut.
