The OSG HP245-2598 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 6.60 mm (0.2598 inch) diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating that improves wear resistance and heat dissipation. The two-flute spiral design with a regular helix promotes efficient chip evacuation in blind-hole and cross-hole applications. Overall length is 91.00 mm with a flute length of 53.00 mm and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 8.00 mm in diameter. This drill is suited for machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production drilling operations requiring tight tolerances.
The HP245-2598 is designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in a range of application types including blind holes, cross holes, and through-hole drilling operations. Its R-thinned point reduces thrust force and promotes self-centering without a center punch in many setups. The 140-degree point geometry is well matched to harder ferrous workpieces where a steeper point angle reduces walking and improves entry accuracy. Typical environments include CNC machining centers and manual drill presses in industrial and job-shop settings.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces; primary workpiece material codes P and K. Suitable for use in the 6.00 to 7.00 mm drill bit size range and 0.2500 to 0.3000 decimal inch range within OSG Series HP245.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with cutting tool setup and machine tool operation. Secure the shank fully within the chuck or collet and verify runout before cutting. Always operate within the machine spindle speed and feed rate recommendations for the workpiece material and drill diameter. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the drill if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
