The OSG HP245-2559 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 6.50 mm (0.2559 inch) cutting diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating for improved wear resistance and heat management. The two-flute spiral configuration with a regular helix and tapered web promotes efficient chip evacuation in a right-hand cutting direction. Overall length is 91.00 mm with a 53.00 mm flute length, and the straight-cylindrical shank measures 8.00 mm in diameter. This drill is suited for production and maintenance environments where precision hole quality and tool life matter.
The HP245-2559 is designed for drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It performs well in blind hole, cross hole, and through-hole applications, and its R-thinned point geometry reduces thrust force during entry, making it effective for self-centering starts without a center drill in many setups. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate drilling depths typical of jobber-length work. Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed rate adjustments, and impact that can cause chipping. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the material being drilled before running the tool.
