The OSG HP245-2520 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 6.40 mm (0.2520 inch) diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating that extends tool life in demanding applications. The two-flute, right-hand spiral configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the tapered web construction adds rigidity at the cutting tip. This drill is suited for production environments where accuracy and tool longevity in steel and cast iron are priorities. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators are the primary users.
The HP245-2520 is built for drilling blind holes, cross holes, and through holes in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses. The R-thinned point reduces thrust force at entry, making it well suited for self-centering operations without a spot drill in many setups.
Primary workpiece materials are steel, alloy steel, and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). The straight-cylindrical shank mounts in standard ER collets, drill chucks, and hydraulic toolholders accepting an 8.00 mm shank diameter.
This drill is installed and operated by machinists or CNC technicians following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is securely clamped to the recommended runout tolerance before commencing a cut. Carbide is brittle — avoid side-loading or using this drill as a boring tool. Follow the toolmaker's recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material; coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is advised when drilling steel at depth.
