The OSG HP245-2283 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit from the HP245 high-performance series. It cuts a 5.80 mm (0.2283 inch) diameter hole with a 140-degree R-thinned point that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust on entry. The WD1 coating extends tool life in demanding ferrous materials. With an overall length of 82.00 mm and a 44.00 mm flute length, it fits standard CNC machining centers and drill presses where a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank is accepted. The two-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a tapered web is suited to precision hole-making operations in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This drill is rated for steel, alloy steel, and cast iron - workpiece material codes P and K in the ISO material classification system. Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and through-drilling in machined components. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for moderate-depth holes without the need for peck cycles in many setups. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist coolant is the standard delivery method for this tool.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces per ISO material codes P and K. Diameter tolerance of +0.004 to +0.016 mm supports close-tolerance hole applications.
Install the shank fully into a collet or drill chuck and verify runout before cutting to avoid premature edge wear. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting the tool. Apply external flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone, as this tool does not support coolant-through delivery. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer feed-and-speed guidelines for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut.
