The OSG HP245-1772 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. It measures 0.1772 inches (4.50 mm) in diameter and features a 140-degree R-thinned point that promotes self-centering and reduces thrust during entry. The WD1 coating enhances wear resistance and tool life in ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank and spiral flute geometry support accurate chip evacuation in blind hole and through-hole operations. This bit is sized at wire gauge number 16 and falls in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range of the HP245 series. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC or manual drilling equipment.
This drill bit is suited for production and job shop environments where consistent hole quality in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron is required. It handles blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, standard through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives it sufficient flute length for moderate-depth holes without sacrificing rigidity. This drill bit is installed by machinists using drill chucks or precision collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or milling machines. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly secured before operation. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling ferrous materials to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when diameter tolerance or point geometry is compromised.
