The OSG HP245-1610 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It carries a WD1 coating and a 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry, which reduces thrust and improves self-centering at entry. The bit measures 2.913 inches (74 mm) overall length with a flute length of 1.417 inches (36 mm). Shank diameter is 0.236 inches (6 mm), straight-cylindrical type. Diameter tolerance is held to a tight plus 0.004 to plus 0.016 mm band, making it suitable for precision hole work in production environments. Licensed tradespeople and toolroom machinists are the primary installers.
This drill bit is rated for steel, alloy steel, and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute design support chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications. Typical use cases include blind hole drilling, cross-hole operations, standard drilling, and self-centering entry without a pilot. It is built for CNC machining centers and manual drill press work where consistent dimensional results are required across production runs.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (ISO material codes P and K). Belongs to OSG Series HP245, sized for wire gauge 20 (0.1610 inch / 4.09 mm diameter) applications.
Install in a properly sized collet or drill chuck, verifying shank seating before spindle start. Solid carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feeds, or use in handheld drills where runout cannot be controlled. Set spindle speed and feed rate according to the workpiece material and machine rigidity before cutting. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping between uses, as carbide does not tolerate re-sharpening under field conditions.
